Are Flip-Flops A Shoe Option?

image

It’s that time of year again when you’re tempted to just throw on those flip-flops and run at the door! Many people ask, is this acceptable footwear or not?? I will blatantly answer this question with this simple answer…FLIP-FLOPS ARE NOT A SHOE OPTION, they are not shoes! They are a flimsy piece of rubber or plastic to serve only for the following purposes;
Going poolside
A trip to the beach
Walking your dog in your yard
Getting the newspaper or mail from the end of your driveway
And with a stretch….a backyard barbecue

Here’s where they are absolutely unacceptable;
Work!
A wedding
Walking in a city
On a walk period!
Shopping
Lunch with the ladies
Dinner out

The obnoxious flippity-flop, clippty-clop sound they make should be a signal to you that they won’t give your body the healthy support it needs, let alone give you a pulled together look!

There is such an array of great foot attire out there to substitute your flops for that will have your feet looking good and feeling good! Here are some alternatives…

Packing For A Beach Getaway

image

Now that Summer is officially here many of you are getting ready to pack up and head to the beach! Whether it’s a car ride away or an exotic destination that requires flying, being prepared will save you time, money, and prevent you from overpacking!

So most packers carry the 80/20 rule into their traveling: we wear 20% of the clothes in our closet 80% of the time??? Same holds true to the suitcase. Learning how to create well planned outfits in advance will ensure optimal clothing use!

Packing For A Beach Getaway

When traveling creating outfits should include garments and accessories that can multi-function and mix and match. Using clothes in similar color palettes is always my recommendation! Beach essentials should include the following:

Shorts- Bring at least two pairs! Denim and white are ideal. Great for sightseeing and the beach!

Tops- Here’s were I try to keep it simple. At least 3-4 basic tanks in black, white, grey, and one vibrant color!

2-3 Swimsuits- if packing swimsuits try for mix and match options!

One Pair of Full Length Bottoms- the ocean air can bring cooler temperatures so pack at least one pair of full length bottoms..leggings, jeans, white pants…

A Cardigan-air condition and ocean breezes warrant at least one cardi!

One Evening Dress- choose something that when paired with heels you’ll have a night on the town look or when paired with flat sandals you’ll have a day around town look!

A Swimsuit Cover-Up- find a cover-up that can multi-function as a dress or a tunic!

Handbags- at least two. A tote for the beach and a clutch for nights out that converts to a crossbody for days of being about!

Shoes- Ok. Admittedly, I am a shoe overpacker but I know enough to tell you 5 pairs is more the enough! First, a pair of slip on, sleep of thongs (a.k.a. flip-flops), a comfortable pair of walking sandals, a wedge sandal for dinners out, a great stiletto for a special night, and lastly sneakers for the hotel gym or a run along the beach!

Sunglasses

A Hat

jewelry One statement necklace that can coordinate with multiple ensembles. Stacked bracelets and 2 pairs of earrings…one day, one evening!

Having a well packed cosmetics bag will insure unnecessary trips to the local drugstore! That’s the last place I want to be on a getaway!

Here’s your packing list…

1. Lip Care- keep your lips healthy and protect them from dangerous UV rays with a healthy, natural sunblock. As a a retired Dental Hygienist I can tell you skin cancers are common on our mouths as we forget this is delicate skin just like other parts of our body! Then of course for after sun, a moisturizing lipstick or balm!

2. Skin Care- Once again a healthy sunscreen and a moisturizer! These are my 2 favorites! The skin needs protection and nourishment!

3. Facial Care- I always travel with make-up wipes to remove make-up and cleanse my face! Nothing worse than hotel bar soap! Then after a day in the sun, a quenching oil based moisturizer filled with antioxidants will keep your skin young and healthy!

4.A Traveling Cosmetics Bag

5. Waterproof Mascara! Heat, sun, and water make this a must!

6. A travel size make-up palette

7. Nail polish- sand being the great exfoliant it is will ruin even the best of manicures and pedicures!

Must-Have’s; that will keep you entertained and equipped…include books, magazines, Ipad, charger, phone, and a passport if needed!

One of the things I do when working with clients is help them identify things that visually interest them…color, pattern, artwork, and nature. The goal is to find inspiration in their everyday lifestyle that they can incorporate into their wardrobe and their style. My favorite flower is a Peony due to it’s beauty, it’s intoxicating fragrance, and the correlation of it’s bloom to my children’s birthday…it inspired me to have it permanently placed on my body. Perhaps you won’t use a tattoo, but you can certainly use style to convey what inspires you! xo Robin

8 Summer Must-Have’s That Will Have Your Girls Looking Good

The greatest piece of advice I can offer a woman about looking good is having the right undergarments! Especially well-fitting and garment appropriate bras! Now, that the warmer temperatures have arrived and we’re wearing less the girls are more visible. Your bra is crucial! Making sure you have the following will keep the girls sitting high, and allow for a flattering silhouette!

8 Summer Undergarment Must-Haves:
1. The Perfect T-Shirt Bra- The fit is so essential here! A t-shirt bra needs to hold your boobs high, as all your bras should, not show any spillage, and be nude in color!
2. A Racerback Bra- Summertime usually means tanks tops. Therefore a Racerback should be an essential!
3. Lingerie Tape- Great for button down tops that have an area that needs closure. Or holding bra straps in place!
4. A Strapper- A great invention that can convert a traditional bra into a Racerback or prevent falling straps!
5. Pasties- For those who can go braless!!! Covers up the nipples!
6. A Bralette- I recommend these all the time for under sheer tops!
7. A Backless Bra- these are awesome for tops or dresses that are cut low in the back!
8. A Bandeau- For those times when you put something on, lift your arm, and see your bra!

One Dress 4 Ways…

Yesterday I attended the Country Living fair in Rhinebeck, New York! I was able to pick up some great finds and see all kinds of fabulous clothing and accessories! From vintage, to handmade!

One of my purchases was the inspiration for this blog. My vintage, repurposed, hand-dyed slip…

I posted yesterday, on my Facebook page about how I would style this multiple ways! It got me thinking about how one of the areas I find my clients need help with the most, is learning how to multi-function and make various uses out of garments in their wardrobe! Like a basic black slip dress!

Simply by changing up the shoes, accessories and adding relevant layering pieces this slip dress can serve multi-purposes! And seasons!

Swimsuits That Will Give You Confidence

It’s been proven that the most anxiety producing clothing item a woman can shop for is a swimsuit!! Not many women take comfort in buying a garment that has them parading around in public half naked with nothing to hide behind unless they choose to wear a muu-muu? In order to build confidence and feel good about the way you look, it is important to learn what will flatter your body to its fullest potential! Here are my swimsuit picks for common body concerns…

Conceal a large chest- Look for swimsuits that have built in bras, underwire, and adjustable straps. Try a two-Piece suit that you can purchase in your actual bra size, it will actually give you a custom fit that you need. So many companies are doing this now! You want the girls well supported and not sagging, overflowing, spilling, or bulging!

image

image

Enhance a small chest- Choose anything that adds volume…ruffles, fringe, padding! Stay away from triangle string bikinis!

image

Conceal a tummy- If you haven’t thought about ever trying a two-piece, now is the time! High-Waisted two-piece swimwear is all the rage and is a perfect swimsuit choice for those who are looking to hide a belly! Or try one-piece swimsuits with ruching detail, ruching works miracles! Plus, anything that is lighter on top and darker at the mid-section will divert the
eye up and take attention away from your mid-section!

image

Create a waist- Look for swimsuits with color blocking, and defined definition at the waist! Bikinis are not ideal, but a tight fitted ruched tankini will work!

image

Elongate short legs- ok, so this is were less is more! Think of the signature Baywatch babe red swimsuit, with the super high cut legs! You want to stay away from heavy fabric on the hip and thigh area! No swim skirts for you ladies!!!!
